The Project focuses on preparing the nomination dossier for UNESCO and strengthening the institutional, scientific, and stakeholder-based framework required for the long-term functioning of the future biosphere reserve. Building upon comprehensive environmental, socio-economic, and cultural assessments, the initiative promotes a balanced approach that combines nature conservation with sustainable regional development and community well-being.

Key objectives include:

Preparation of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Nomination – Developing the nomination dossier for the Dilijan Biosphere Reserve based on scientific assessments, stakeholder consultations, and international MAB Programme requirements.

Integrated Assessment and Planning – Supporting the analysis of ecological, cultural, and socio-economic values, defining functional zones, and developing management approaches for the future biosphere reserve.

Stakeholder Engagement and Governance Development – Strengthening cooperation among public institutions, scientific organizations, local communities, and other stakeholders to ensure participatory governance.

Sustainable Development and Conservation Solutions – Promoting approaches that integrate biodiversity conservation, climate resilience, environmental education, and sustainable use of natural resources.

The Project will establish the scientific and institutional foundation for the nomination and future operation of the Dilijan Biosphere Reserve as part of the UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserves. It will contribute to biodiversity conservation, sustainable regional development, strengthened local cooperation, and the creation of an internationally recognized model for balancing nature protection and human well-being.
