Development of the Environmental Impact Assessment Plan for the forest restoration works

Afforestation interventions in the target area were designed to contribute to ecosystem restoration and sustainable land management, while addressing environmental and socio-economic challenges. The initiative focused on restoring degraded landscapes, enhancing biodiversity, and strengthening climate resilience through well-planned and locally adapted measures.

Key activities and achievements include:

• Baseline assessment of landscapes and local conditions:
An initial assessment was conducted to analyze natural-climatic conditions, land use patterns, and the socio-economic situation of the target communities.

• Identification of suitable areas for afforestation:
Degraded and low-productivity lands were identified and evaluated based on soil quality, water availability, and exposure to environmental risks.

• Analysis of environmental and social impacts:
The potential effects of afforestation activities on ecosystems and local communities were assessed, ensuring that interventions generate positive ecological and socio-economic outcomes.

• Implementation of afforestation activities:
Afforestation works were carried out on 3 hectares, including site preparation, planting, and initial maintenance to ensure successful establishment.

• Selection of appropriate tree species:
Locally adapted and climate-resilient species were selected to ensure high survival rates, promote biodiversity, and strengthen ecosystem stability.

• Community engagement and awareness:
Local communities were involved in planting and maintenance activities, fostering ownership and promoting sustainable land management practices.

• Contribution to environmental sustainability:
