The Local Action Group (LAG) areas in Shirak region are characterized by diverse natural resources and strong agricultural potential, while also facing significant environmental challenges. These include land degradation, limited water resources, climate change impacts, and the consequences of unsustainable farming practices. Within this context, the implemented activities aimed to provide a comprehensive environmental analysis and support sustainable local development.
Key activities and achievements include:
• Comprehensive environmental analysis in LAG areas:
A detailed assessment was conducted to identify key environmental issues, risks, and development opportunities, with a particular focus on the agricultural sector.
• Agriculture-focused recommendations and guidance:
Practical recommendations were developed to promote sustainable use of natural resources, soil conservation, efficient water management, and the adoption of climate-resilient agricultural practices.
• Integration of environmental aspects into local development strategies:
Support was provided to ensure that environmental priorities are incorporated into LAG development strategies, through close collaboration with project staff and local stakeholders.
• Mainstreaming environmental considerations into project and investment proposals:
Guidance and advisory support were delivered to ensure that community and business project proposals integrate environmental protection principles.
• Capacity building for grant applicants:
Within the LEAD4Shirak grant scheme, applicants were supported in developing projects that incorporate environmental components and sustainable solutions.
As a result, LAG areas in Shirak region are better equipped with a structured and informed approach to environmental management and sustainable agricultural development. These efforts contribute to the long-term resilience of the region, strengthening local economies while ensuring the protection of natural resources.
